Employees Thinking Creatively – Words from Bill

Aug 10th

I was thinking the other day that no man is an island.  In fact, it can be downright exhausting to always be the only one to come up with fresh ideas.  Well, every business has a resource–usually untapped–for creativity: their employees!

  1. Create an inspiring workplace. Have areas to relax in.  Include recreations such as, ping pong, volley ball and basketball court, or even horseshoes
  2. Let employees brainstorm together. Bring an employee into a senior staff meeting to hear their thoughts
  3. Let them build confidence by taking classes on different topics.  It’s okay if it’s non-work related as long as it’s inspiring
  4. If they have an outside interest, foster it!  For example, let them leave early for rehearsal in a church play

These are just a few ideas off the top of my head.  How do you foster creativity in your employees?

Business and the Family – Podcast

Aug 6th

Bill and his guest Dr. Brian Byrd talk about other less tangible parts of business, including an often overlooked part of business: family. Take the time to think of the roles that your family plays in your business. Even if they don’t actually work for you, your family and their happiness and well-being are tied to you and your company. If you’ve worked hard and turned your business into one big, happy family, how then do you handle firing? It’s important to place emphasis on respect and understanding when letting someone go.

Respect and Caring – Podcast

Bill continues the discussion of business in the medical community with Dr. Brian Byrd. How much does a business owner shape the culture, environment, and attitude of their company? Respect for employees and respect for people in general are paramount for creating a good business to work for; not to mention a success business.

Something to think about: “There are a thousand people out there who can do your job far better than you… Being humble can go a long way.”

Healthcare as a Business – Podcast

Bill goes another round with Dr. Brian Byrd. How do you get into the business of health care? Remember that business is business. The business-side of medicine doesn’t require a medical background. Fantastic doctors may not have a clue about advertising. Internet marketing may be a foreign language to medical device stores. There are plenty of business opportunities within and in support of the medical community.
